JKS Streetwise for kids is a structured class that is great for self-defense, focus, self discipline, self esteem, self confidence, coordination, control, flexibility, respect for others, fitness, and competition. All classes are taught by Shihan James Monette with his team of instructors. JKS is the only martial arts school that has a maximum of 10 students per instructor.
There are three different age categories:
Little Ninjas (3-4-5 years old). At this age the children are learning the same things as the much older children just at a slower pace. Most children at this age attend between 1 to 2 times per week. The goal for this age group is to introduce martial arts into their lives. This in turn introduces structure and discipline.
In the peewee group (ages 6 to 8), the children learn at a faster pace than the little ninjas with fewer games. We expect a little more focus and discipline at this age. Some of the children at this age learn very quickly and are sometimes placed with the older children in order to allow them to progress at the pace they are comfortable with. The average child at this age attends between 2 and 4 times per week.
Juniors (ages 9 to 12 years old). They learn at a pace similar to the adults. The focus and discipline is much higher and you see the improvement in their physical ability and their mental attitude very quickly. Many of the children at this age group attend between 3 and 5 times per week.
In all the age categories, the children are taught how to deal with bullies verbally and if need be physically. The physical way is always the last resort.
They also become very confident in who they are which allows them to make their own choices and not just follow the crowd.
